A Community on a Journey
I've always wondered why church is the way it is: why we do what we do? It seems that so much of church is nothing but traditions and motions that we go through because we've always gone through them. It's not that these traditions are wrong, or bad, it's just that they're traditions. They aren't what church is, just what we do when we get together.
A few weeks ago I was sitting in a coffee shop and I saw two friends sitting having a cup of coffee together. They were laughing and talking, sharing stories about their lives, about their kids, about their work, and I couldn't help but think that church should feel more like that. When I enter a church these days it feels a lot like entering any other institution in our society. It feels like it's more about programs and budgets than about people, relationships, community and ultimately about God. Again, it's not that these things are wrong, but what if it could be different?
So that's what we're about here at Redwood: we're about trying to figure out what church might look like, if it felt more like that coffee shop. If church was more about community, and about pursuing the life that Jesus promised us than about just keeping the institution going. So that's what we want to invite you to: to join us on our journey to see what church could be. We'd love for you to be a part of our community: a part of our journey. Join us!
